Judging by the quality of the snippets she released after the series ended (the 800 word 'prequel', the world cup, pottermore, and the epilogue) I really don't think she would do a good job at it. She really lost it around OotP. Those new snippets also have the added negative effect of canonizing things that better be left to our imagination, and she doesn't even give the impression that she gave a lot of thought when she wrote them. It just seems like she doesn't care anymore and ruins her earlier work with every little detail she throws around.

The only two Harry Potter books I want are Hogwarts: A History, and a A History of Magic. Give me those two and all will be right with the world.

I'd love to see a whimsical 'Adventures of Luna Loevegood in the Magical World', with Luna and family exploring magical wilderness.

I doubt Rowling will be able to leave the HP world alone.

I'd love some stories about Harry and company as adults, perhaps with a grittier edge, but I'd love a new cast of adult characters more.

I hope we get another book in the HP universe.

These days I'm a somewhat successful writer, but I can't fathom the fame and pressure Rowling had to endure. If we ever get another book, it'll be because she has a story she wants to tell. Not before.

Actually, I hope that if we ever get a new book, it is not with adult characters and most certainly not gritty.

It'd be cool to read about magical France though.

I'm hoping that her Cormoran Strike series is her way of practicing detective fiction before she goes back to write a series with Harry as an Auror.

I also wouldn't mind a series that takes place in the future with a new character going to Hogwarts. Harry is the Dumbledore figure of the story; a retired Auror who is the popular Hogwarts professor/Headmaster. The problem with this though is I can't imagine she'd be able to pull off that sense of wonderment we all felt as we read Harry's introduction to Hogwarts and this new world because we already know about it and have felt it before.

How about a story set at Beauxbatons? Would anyone care to read about the French wizarding world?

    I'd genuinely rather eat dirt.

If she absolutely had to write a sequel, at least introduce a new evil, rather than cheapening the previous series by going, "Oops, looks like the guy who I assured you was permanently gone is back because of a magical loophole. Harry's not so much a hero as a chump who couldn't seal the deal."

Wait... you mean official permission for official stories? Because that's one of those things JKR has expressly said will not be happening.

    Even after she dies.

And if you don't think Warner Bros and their lawyers can keep that copyright wrapped up and away from going public domain until the sun burns out... well, at the very least, none of use will be alive to see Harry clear of copyright.

Unless horcruxes or anti-DNA degradation shots/nanobots become a thing real soon. Of course, in that case, JKR will probably be around to hold that copyright, herself.

She clearly doesn't need to write to keep the lights on in her castle, so she won't be trotting HP out unless she truly want to.

Hmm. How would people feel about a 'grittier,' more adult-oriented, magical novel, set in a completely different 'universe' than Harry Potter? Then again, I suppose that might come off as 'JKR does her take on Dresden.'

Not that people wouldn't eat that up.

I'd rather she doesn't write one. The original series was meant for children and young adults. I don't want to see my favourite characters going through the mundane aspects of married life, mid-life crisis etc. I can understand the need of wanting to know more about Harry and co. post series but that's just part of why we love the series in the first place.
Most of us have outgrown the series but there's always gonna be the new generation who would pick up Harry Potter with the same sense of wonderment and joy that we did as kids(God that makes me feel old). I'd rather not take that away from them.

I wouldn't mind a crossover of sorts where it turns out her Cormoran Strike series is set in the Harry Potter universe. All it would need is a sligh wink about an odd childhood friend who disappeared to a boarding school in Scotland or a cold case from the late 90's about a family seemingly dieing of fright.

I know some of you want to read a new set of books about the new generation, but I sure as hell don't want to read about Albus Gay Severus Threesome Potter. She turned Harry into an idiot after book 4.
