Congratulations to our Winner - Rolf Scamander and the Skrewts of Hogwarts

By Ched - though they didn't claim it at first because they were ashamed of it.

And our Runner-up - Not His Story by @soczab !!

Alright folks, 2020 is almost over - let's end it on a good note with a great competition, yeah?

    2020 Q4 Competition - Short Stories
Topic - Not all Adventures at Hogwarts involve Harry

The implication is that the POV character will not be Harry - that's not a 'rule' but you'll have to be clever to meet the prompt without following it!

The word count requirement for this set of short stories will be 500-4000 words! Our more entered competitions recently were in April (Flash, 500-1000) and May (shorter stories, 2500-4000), so I'm hoping to revitalize some of that energy with another 'short' competition.

Pick your poison based on that information! Authors will be required to review/vote this time, though you can still stay anonymous. I'll know who you are as will Xiph0, but otherwise it's private unless you want credit.

You'll have roughly a month and change to write, more details to come after the poll closes in 4 days!

Should be a non-Harry POV at Hogwarts unless you’re really clever about it

I’ll get due dates up soon. Guessing a month or so! Get to it!

Due date posted. As per the discussion in the General comp thread, authors will be required to vote this time.

I tried for at least a week to come up with a way to make this about Sally-Anne Perks. She seemed perfect for it. She could be part-demiguise, and able to become invisible, and do something behind the scenes. She could try a ritual she finds in a book and travel through time - forward or backward. She could be a seer.

I finally ended up with an idea completely unrelated to all of that with a different character.

I'm not sure how easily I'll be able to fit the idea into <4k but I think it should be pretty doable... if I can find time to start writing and actually finish a story this time.

How are the rest of you coming along?

Don't give yourself away! Anonymous in case people are biased by your identity!

Sounds awesome though :) I also tried to adapt a previous comp fic (for the second time) but I couldn't quite get it to fit what I felt was the spirit of the prompt.

    Hey everyone!

We only got two entries this time (sadface) and I'd like to have at least three.

The people who submitted on time will get a reward of picking a prompt, but let's give it another few days, yeah?

    NEW DEADLINE: DECEMBER 15TH

Get your stories into @Xiph0! And those of you that did submit, well, you can edit now if you want and resub!

Hey, all you folks that voted (which means you have the intent/desire to write - or that's what it's supposed to mean):

    @Silirt @Sorrows @darklordmike @Shouldabeenadog @Blorcyn @Paradise @haphnepls @Quentin @Selethe @M.L. @alexthebookworm12 @Niez @FitzDizzyspells @Zel @Khaine @Lindsey @AlbusPHolmes @Distended Destiny @Advice Needed

Submit ffs! Voting is supposed to mean that you have interest in writing, and while I understand that things get in the way (I always vote and intend to write, but manage to enter the comps 1-2 times a year max) come on somebody!

Ohh. Hey. Random suggestion. And let me preface I get this is 'on me.' But mmm. IS there any way to make this forum not a sub forum somehow? More then once now ive had an intention of writing, but then the thread/info is buried 'out of sight' when I visit the forums. And maybe ive intended to write and then completely forget about it because while I visit DLP daily I never notice the competition forum.

This one was a good example. About12 hours ago I was like "let me check when that was due again..." heh. Ill try again take two now with this extension.

Anyway I get not seeing the forums not a 'good' reason not to write. And its on me that I need that visual reminder. But that might be my suggestion. If there was a way to make the forum/competition more visible daily to casual browsers like myself.

Seems like I'm the first to review, as per usual. People really need to start upping their reading speeds, smh. Anyway!

2 points to Entry #1, 1 point to entry #2, 1 point to entry #3, 1 point to entry #4.

So is the way this works is we have 4 points we divide amongst stories?

if so, I'll go 4 points for entry 2 and 1 point for entry 1.

    edited!

Have everyone a few more days to vote.

    I still need to vote.

Remember authors should all vote this time.

I've been busy lately - will get to those pms soon.
